Discovery may lead to treating aneurysms with drugs, not surgery

A new discovery by a team of researchers at UNMC will be the featured cover story in the Sept. 3 issue of the Journal of Clinical Investigation, a peer-reviewed biomedical research journal published by the American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI). The two-year study was funded, in part, by a $1.3 million grant from the U.S. National Institutes of Health and a $300,000 grant from the American Heart Association.

ABC’s Good Morning America comes to UNMC/NHS

ABC producer Bill Cunningham spent several hours on the UNMC/NHS campus last month gathering video for Good Morning America’s “50 States, One Nation, One Year” project.

The segments on Nebraska – including one on UNMC/NHS – is scheduled to air Sept. 2. Good Morning America, anchored by Diane Sawyer and Charlie Gibson, airs weekdays from 7 to 9 a.m. on KETV Channel 7.

The campus is invited to celebrate the UNMC College of Medicine’s centennial history Thursday, Aug. 22 from noon to 1 p.m. in the Eppley Science Hall Amphitheater.

Energy-saving campaign yields results

The UNMC/NHS energy conservation campaign is making a difference.

“For the most part we are seeing a marked improvement of 5 percent to as much as a 10 percent reduction in peak electrical consumption,” said Nick Combs, UNMC’s manager of Maintenance and Utilities. “Now we need to ensure that this is not momentary, but something we do consistently.”
