UNMC builds first student apartment building
Next fall, UNMC students will be able to move into a new brick apartment building on the east side of campus. UNMC is building a three-story, 61,000-gross-square-foot apartment building at 38th Avenue and Jackson Street, near the Ronald McDonald House.

CNND receives $6 million grant for neurodegeneration studies
The Center for Neurovirology and Neurodegenerative Disorders (CNND) at UNMC has received a $6 million grant from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke of the National Institutes of Health to study how the brain’s immune system can lead to damage of nerve cells in HIV-dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. The research also will seek to determine how arms of the immune system can be harnessed to reverse different forms of dementia.

Dillard University summer interns learn about research
Like many people who have never visited the Midwest or Nebraska, Patrick Jones of Memphis thought he’d see mostly cornfields. But when he and other Dillard University undergraduate students return to college this fall, they’ll have learned there’s more to Nebraska than fields of green. Academically, they’ll also be way ahead of many of their classmates.
