Homeland Security director to visit UNMC Friday

Office of Homeland Security Director Tom Ridge will visit Nebraska Friday for briefings on homeland security efforts, including bioterrorism-related projects at UNMC. Ridge, former governor of Pennsylvania, was appointed to his federal position following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Longtime employee of Eppley Institute, David Heard, dies

David Heard, a 34-year employee of the Eppley Institute, died Sunday, Oct. 27. He was 67. Heard joined the Eppley Institute as the animal care facility supervisor in July 1968, a role he remained in until retiring this past April.

Outside firm to assist with UNMC employee satisfaction survey

Dr. Spurzem named medical director of the NHS Adult Intensive Care Units

John Spurzem, M.D., professor in the department of internal medicine, section of pulmonary & critical care medicine, has been named medical director of the Adult Intensive Care Units for NHS University and NHS Clarkson hospitals. He succeeds Joe Sisson, M.D., who will continue to serve as professor and chief of the pulmonary & critical care medicine section.
