UNMC Community Academy sponsors drive to benefit Project Hope, the Potter House

With Thanksgiving just a few weeks away, most people are looking forward to how much food they expect to eat, not how little. This year, students who participate in the UNMC Community Academy are helping feed those in need by hosting a food and sundry needs drive, now through Nov. 22, to benefit Project Hope and The Potter House.

Cancer survivor, spouse sign research fund agreement

It’s not brick and mortar that makes a good medical center, cancer survivor David Aresty says, but the ideas and workings within the med center walls.

That’s one reason why Aresty and his wife signed the David and Patti Aresty Cancer Research Fund Agreement on Friday to complete their $500,000 gift, which supports novel research and established the Aresty Lounge in the Lied Transplant Center at UNMC. They signed the fund agreement at the Lied center, in the second-floor lounge that bears their name.

UNMC to host international conferences on bone marrow, stem cell transplantation

UNMC, which is recognized nationally and internationally for its expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of leukemia and lymphoma, will host two conferences today through Saturday, Nov. 14-16, on bone marrow and stem cell transplantation.

The conferences, to be held at the DoubleTree Hotel in downtown Omaha, will focus on advances made in cancer treatment, drugs, research and cancer care.
