UNMC, UNL study organism that could be used as bioweapon

Researchers at UNMC and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln are collaborating on a $100,000 pilot study to conduct basic research on Francisella tularensis — an organism that can be used as a bioweapon, to cause tularemia, a potentially fatal disease.

Dr. Maurer earns Lifetime Achievement Award from Children’s Oncology Group

UNMC Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D., has been named the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Children’s Oncology Group, a National Cancer Institute-supported clinical cooperative cancer treatment and research group. Dr. Maurer is being recognized for his significant contributions to pediatric cancer research.

UNMC announces first phase of budget cuts

UNMC today announced its plans to reduce its budget by $2 million for the fiscal year 2003-2004. “None of these cuts are easy. We’ve tried to preserve our educational programs in these cuts, and I think that we’ve done a good job of selecting parts of the budget that will have the least impact on the overall vision of UNMC,” UNMC Chancellor Harold M. College of Nursing moves to online testing

It’s test day in the College of Nursing. But for many students, that does not mean a trip to the classroom with a No. 2 pencil and an eraser. For some nursing students, it means a trip to the computer lab and about a hundred clicks of the mouse. This semester, 11 College of Nursing graduate and undergraduate classes are taking tests online using Perception software.

UNMC sends medical supplies to Afghanistan

The UNMC Bookstore has donated approximately 25 boxes of nursing and medical books, as well as lab coats and scrubs to hospitals in Afghanistan. It is the first donation being sent from UNMC to the impoverished area.
