Dr. Keller receives award to advance Alzheimer’s research

Studies have shown that bright light therapy has improved appetite, sleep and mood in people with Alzheimer’s disease. Now, UNMC’s Brenda Keller, M.D., plans to advance this research by studying the effect of lighting on day-to-day activities. The UNMC assistant professor of geriatrics and gerontology is the latest recipient of the Vada Kinman Oldfield Alzheimer’s Research Fund Award, which is given annually to an individual with a promising new idea in Alzheimer’s research.

Nursing’s West Nebraska Division plans asthma awareness event

The UNMC College of Nursing West Nebraska Division in Scottsbluff and community partners will hold the Third Annual Asthma Awareness event Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event, which is open to the public, will offer free asthma screenings and education at the Monument Mall in Scottsbluff, 2302 Frontage Road.

Dentistry provides anatomy lessons to 700 high school students

Stanton Harn, Ph.D., has been providing educational experiences for Nebraska high school students for so long that many have become students in his UNMC College of Dentistry classes. For the past 25 years, students taking anatomy and physiology classes have traveled to the UNMC College of Dentistry to add another dimension to their learning by viewing human cadavers.
