First UNMC undergraduate students place dental implants

Responding to increasing demand from Nebraska patients for dental implants, the UNMC College of Dentistry developed a program last fall to train undergraduate dental students in dental implants procedures. The college recently has had its first undergraduate students place implants in patients.

‘Ask the candidate’ forum to feature Dr. Crouse

A finalist for a top administrative post at UNMC will take part in an “ask the candidate” forum at 7:30 a.m. CDT Friday, May 16, in the University Hospital Amphitheater, Room 4208. Students, faculty and staff are invited to attend.

David Crouse, Ph.D, is the interim vice chancellor for academic affairs/interim dean for graduate studies at UNMC. He also is a professor in the department of genetics, cell biology and anatomy. Dr. Crouse will answer questions during the forum. He is one of three finalists for the position of UNMC vice chancellor for academic affairs/dean for graduate studies.

Session seeks to alleviate ‘budgeting fear factors’

Sponsored Programs Administration and the Office of Budget, Analysis and Financial Compliance will co-host a training session entitled, “Budgeting Fear Factor” on Tuesday, May 27.

This training session is intended to alleviate budgeting fears, so every day does not seem like a walk through the real Fear Factor show. Appropriate for grant administrators, accountants and investigators, the training sessions are designed to increase participants’ awareness and knowledge of budgets and related financial compliance standards.

Sen. Nelson secures $5 million for UNMC bioterrorism lab in Department of Defense budget authorization

Nebraska Sen. Ben Nelson has secured $5 million from the Department of Defense budget authorization and will earmark the money as a “building block” for UNMC’s goal to establish a national bioterrorism center on campus.

Nursing dean earns Distinguished Educator Award from Ohio State

The distinguished career of Ada Lindsey, Ph.D., dean of the UNMC College of Nursing, began in 1955 when she enrolled at The Ohio State University School of Nursing. Little did she know that 47 years later, she would receive a second prestigious award from her alma mater.

In late April, Dr. Lindsey received The Ohio State University College of Nursing Alumni Society’s Mildred E. Newton Distinguished Educator Award in Columbus, Ohio, during Annual Alumni Day.
