Dr. Roche retiring from administrative role

When Edward “Ted” Roche, Ph.D., interviewed for a faculty position in the College of Pharmacy in 1966, he thought it would be a nice place to be for the next three to five years.

This academic year will be the last for Dr. Roche in administration. After 23 years as an academic administrator, Dr. Roche will return full time to the pharmaceutical sciences faculty.

From Ghana to New York City to Omaha: Sallar’s path leads to UNMC pharmacy degree

Kofi Sallar’s journey to the United States began with a mere $20 in his pocket and a one-way plane ticket from Ghana to New York City. Now, more than seven years later, Sallar is the proud recipient of a doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center and is preparing for a career with Indian Health Service in Gallup, N.M.

Dr. Larsen among those honored as YWCA Women of Vision

A UNMC physician is one of eight Women of Vision who will be honored at the annual YWCA Omaha Tribute to Women luncheon.

Jennifer Larsen, M.D., section chief for diabetes, endocrinology and metabolism in the department of internal medicine, will be honored in the “professions” category. The luncheon will begin at noon on Tuesday, June 10, in the Palace Ballroom at the Holiday Inn Central, 72nd and Grover streets.

The Office of Budget and Analysis is re-hosting a training session about the UNMC Cost Transfer Policy and Procedure. To help you understand the July 1 requirements, the training session is scheduled for Tuesday, June 10.

Library services still in demand

The growth in electronic library resources hasn’t slowed traffic at the McGoogan Library.

During the 2001-02 fiscal year, 225,716 visitors entered the McGoogan Library, and there were more than 1.7 million visitors to all University of Nebraska libraries. (Love Library at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the Schmid Law Library at the NU College of Law, University Library at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and Ryan Library at the University of Nebraska at Kearney).

Pope, ‘icon to medical students,’ wins Gold ‘U’ Award

Sue Pope might not have stayed at UNMC long, had it not been for a green, 1970 Plymouth Duster.

Pope has long since retired the vehicle, but her passion as program coordinator in the College of Medicine’s Office of Admissions and Students remains strong nearly 33 years later.

Third finalist to participate in ‘ask the candidate forum’

A finalist for a top administrative post at UNMC will take part in an “ask the candidate forum” at 7:30 a.m. CDT Thursday, May 22, in the Wittson Hall Amphitheater, Room 3034. Students, faculty and staff are invited to attend.

Rubens J. Pamies, M.D., is professor of medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and chairman of the department of internal medicine at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tenn.
