New training required for users of animals in research

UNMC has developed an online training program that is required for all personnel involved in animal research, including students. The training is required for everyone listed on an active protocol approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). Whereas the new training replaces the core basic training required by Comparative Medicine, the CM core basic training cannot substitute for the new training.

American Heart Association names officers, board members

The American Heart Association has appointed Dr. Chris Erickson to a one-term as president of the Association’s Metro Board. Erickson is an associate professor of pediatric electrophysiology and pacing at Children’s Hospital.

NIH executive keynotes UNMC-hosted regional BRIN conference

UNMC hosted a regional conference of state administrators in May for the Biomedical Research Infrastructure Network (BRIN). The BRIN Central Region Meeting allowed BRIN coordinators from Nebraska, Kansas, North Dakota, South Dakota and Oklahoma to review their respective state programs with Fred Taylor, Ph.D., director of the Institutional Development Award (IDeA) Program.

Governor announces partnership to retain a Poison Center in Nebraska

Continuing an ongoing tradition of collaboration, the State of Nebraska has partnered with Creighton University Medical Center, UNMC and Nebraska Health System to create a new poison center in Nebraska – the Nebraska Regional Poison Center.

HIPAA, the “Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996,” provides federal protection of patient health information. As part of our continuing efforts to educate employees, these HIPAA-related messages will be distributed the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month.
