MMI’s PEDALS program teaches bike riding skills

Although, bike riding is a breeze for Rosanne Schwartz and her husband, Mike, who have logged hundreds of miles on a single trip, mastering a two-wheeler has been a challenge for their 10-year-old daughter. Until now.

Michaela is among 20 children and adults with special needs participating in PEDALS, a new program offered by the UNMC Munroe-Meyer Institute’s physical therapy department. After a handful of lessons, Michaela is discovering the joys of being able to ride on two wheels.

UNMC to participate in Nebraska Multicultural Expo

UNMC has a wonderful opportunity to showcase its programs and people at next month’s Nebraska Multicultural Expo. The expo, which will take place Oct. 4-5 at the new Qwest Convention Center and Arena in downtown Omaha, will feature exhibits related to health, education, business and finance. Slow speeds, common courtesy key to parking garage safety

Tina Spencer has a couple of words of advice for those employees parking in the new employee parking structure: Drive slow.

At least one accident has been reported in the new structure, and several employees have reported that some drivers are traveling too fast in the structure. Speeds shouldn’t reach more than 5 mph in the structure, said Spencer, manager of Parking and Cashiering Services.

UNMC graduate joins Intellectual Property Office

A new position in UNMC’s Intellectual Property Office will further help retain intellectual property rights for the university and its researchers. Michael Dixon, who recently earned his Ph.D. in pathology and microbiology from UNMC, will serve as the IPO’s Faculty Liaison.
