Diabetes: Are you at risk?

November is National Diabetes Awareness Month. According to the American Diabetes Association, 17 million Americans have diabetes, yet one in three people do not know it. While this illness is very preventable and treatable, undiagnosed diabetes in adults is still a major problem, said James Lane, M.D., an assistant professor in the department of internal medicine, section of diabetes, endocrinology and metabolism.

Durham Research Center dedication set for Nov. 13

UNMC will open the doors soon to a 10-level, state-of-the-art research building. The $77 million Durham Research Center, built almost exclusively with private funds, will hold its dedication ceremony at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13. A public open house is scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 16.

The Fourth Annual Heartland Latino Leadership Conference on Nov. 6-7 offers a full complement of workshop topics that impact America’s fastest-growing minority group. Relationship with NAP benefits UNMC, patients with HIV/AIDS

UNMC’s strong relationship with the Nebraska AIDS Project (NAP) is important to the university in several ways, the medical director of the UNMC HIV Clinic says. NAP is the beneficiary of the annual “Night of a Thousand Stars” celebration. This year’s 11th annual celebration will take place on Dec. 6.
