Dr. Gollan selected as new dean of UNMC College of Medicine

John Gollan, M.D., Ph.D., the individual who has led the department of internal medicine the past two years, has been named dean of the UNMC College of Medicine. The appointment, which is subject to approval of the University of Nebraska Board of Regents, would be effective Dec. 15.

Anonymous kidney donation program turns strangers into friends

An innovative program that allows kidney donation among strangers may offer new hope for some patients on the transplant list at The Nebraska Medical Center. The area’s first anonymous living kidney donation recently took place with transplant surgeons from UNMC taking a kidney from a 48-year-old Kansas man and transplanting it into an Omaha teenager.

Public gets first glimpse inside Durham Research Center

Loretta Wolf was one of approximately 2,000 people who attended Sunday’s open house at the Durham Research Center. “It’s the state’s crown jewel,” Wolf said, while touring the first floor of UNMC’s newest research facility. It was the public’s first glance inside the $77 million research building.

Student Senate election results announced

The votes have been counted for the 2004 Student Senate election. Ryan Arnold (M-3) will be the new president and student regent. Nick Behrendt (M-2) will serve as vice president. Their terms begin Jan. 1.

World-class vision, leadership and generosity have led to the opening of UNMC’s crown jewel — the Durham Research Center. On a crisp November Thursday, a standing-room only crowd filled the 319-seat auditorium to celebrate the dedication of the Durham Research Center and pay tribute to the generous philanthropists who made the building a reality.

Durham Research Center dedication today

The campus is invited to attend today’s dedication ceremony for the Durham Research Center. The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. in the building’s auditorium. It will feature a number of dignitaries, as well as the philanthropists who made the Durham Research Center possible. An all-campus celebration, complete with refreshments and tours of the building’s first floor, will follow the dedication until 3 p.m.
