Navin receives Chancellor’s Gold U Award

On any given day, Jim Navin delivers thousands of messages. But, Navin isn’t your typical mailman. As administrator of UNMC’s Lotus Notes system, Navin supports 4,000 faculty and staff e-mail accounts and almost 3,000 student accounts around the clock. His goal is simple: help UNMC employees communicate electronically.

Asthma walk set for April 24

Appropriations Committee recommends half-percent cut to NU

The Legislature’s Appropriations Committee is recommending that $2 million (one-half of one percent) be trimmed from the University of Nebraska’s appropriation, as part of the committee’s economic plan to balance the biennial budget.

Medical response corps seeks volunteers

Medical and non-medical professionals are being sought to help strengthen Omaha and the surrounding communities in times of disaster. Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey Friday unveiled The Metropolitan Omaha Volunteer Medical Reserve Corps as a way to prepare citizens to assist in large-scale emergencies such as bioterrorism, epidemics, or natural disasters.

Employees at UNMC, UMA and The Nebraska Medical Center can purchase discount tickets for the 7 p.m. appearance on April 23 at Qwest Center Omaha by Dr. Phil McGraw, nationally known TV psychologist and best selling author. Discount tickets are available at $78.50 through March 19 by calling (402) 561-7578. This is a reduction of $6.50 from the normal cost of $85.

UNMC faculty present at international cancer conference

Two UNMC faculty members — Alison Freifeld, M.D., associate professor of internal medicine and director of the UNMC Immunocompromised Host Infectious Diseases Program, and James Armitage, M.D., Joe Shapiro Professor of Medicine and UNMC oncologist — made presentations at the recent National Comprehensive Cancer Network’s conference.
