Dr. Kirkegaard receives College of Pharmacy award

Scott Kirkegaard, Pharm.D., has been selected as the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Pharmacy 2004 Preceptor of the Year. Dr. Kirkegaard, a clinical pharmacist at the Hastings Regional Center in Hastings, Neb., was selected for the award by a vote of the graduating senior class. This is the third time he has received the award.

Together, Harold M. Maurer, M.D., and his wife, Beverly have changed the landscape of the Omaha community. On May 4, Prevent Blindess Nebraska formally presented the Maurers with its 2004 People of Vision Award for their outstanding achievements in making the Omaha community a better place to live. MMI to hold June 3 golf tournament to raise funds

The C. Louis Meyer Rehabilitation Foundation, Inc. invites the public to participate in its Tee-Up for Disabilities Golf Tournament June 3 at the Tregaron Golf Course in Bellevue. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Adult Recreational Therapy Program at UNMC’s Munroe-Meyer Institute.

Smokers need to take habit to designated areas

When smokers on campus light up where they shouldn’t, it can affect more than just the people who happen to walk by them. “We’re experiencing problems with smoke being drawn into buildings, and we’ve received numerous complaints from staff, patients and visitors,” said John Hauser, the safety officer for UNMC and its hospital partner, The Nebraska Medical Center. “Smokers need to smoke in the designated shelters only.”

Dr. Kahn to receive UNO Alumni Association honor

The University of Nebraska at Omaha Alumni Association will bestow its Citation for Alumnus Achievement upon Guinter Kahn, M.D., during the University’s commencement ceremony Friday, May 7, at the Omaha Civic Auditorium. Dr. Kahn is a UNMC College of Medicine graduate.

Donated artwork expands American Indian exhibit

A young man stands with pride before the woman he loves. Behind him are six vibrant ponies — his gift to the family of the young maiden he wishes to marry. The colorful scene of a long-ago Lakota courtship is the newest piece of artwork now on display in the Ear, Nose and Throat clinic at UNMC.
