In her first summer at UNMC, Makena Hammond of Newport News, Va., already is planning a return trip. Hammond, who will be a junior at Virginia State University, is one of nearly 100 summer undergraduate research students from across the country exploring research questions inside UNMC laboratories.

UNMC rheumatologist writes review for prestigious journal

James O’Dell, M.D., professor of medicine and chief of the section of rheumatology and immunology at UNMC, has written a review for the country’s most prestigious medical journal. Unlike other published articles, this was by invitation. The 4,000-word review, titled “Therapeutic Strategies for Rheumatoid Arthritis,” appears in today’s (June 17) issue of the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM).

Affiliation agreements enhance cultural competence
