Behrendt takes oath to lead UNMC Student Senate

Saying he wants to be a strong representative for the UNMC student body, third-year medical student Nick Behrendt took the oath of office on Thursday to become the next UNMC Student Senate president. The unopposed victor in November’s student elections, Behrendt also will be the UNMC student representative on the University of Nebraska Board of Regents.

UNMC physician sees tsunami devastation

It was a 70-degree winter day and K.C. Balaji and his family were relaxing on the sandy beaches in the Bay of Bengal, as they often do when they visit the southeastern coast of India. His 2-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son built sand castles, played ball and dodged waves as they lapped the shore. One week later, a deadly tsunami struck the tranquil beach, erasing everything in its path.

Students explore research opportunities

John Gross wandered through mountains of poster boards Thursday (Jan. 13) in search of a summer research opportunity. The Creighton University senior hopes to work in a lab after he graduates in May with a bachelor’s degree in biology. The UNMC Office of Research and Development’s fifth annual Research Fair last week was a wonderful opportunity, he said, to sample the breadth of basic and clinical research taking place on campus.

Internal medicine residents pass boards for seventh straight year

For the seventh consecutive year, residents of UNMC’s Department of Internal Medicine have recorded a 100 percent pass rate on their certification examinations. James O’Dell, M.D., director of the internal medicine residency program, said that no other program in the region has numbers comparable to UNMC.
