The conference, which discussed the nature of racial and ethnic health disparities and the efforts to combat them, was at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, Va.

Omahan visits eye clinic for decades
If not for a bit of pond scum, Della McClain might never have visited the Eye Associates at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. But, for almost 70 years, the 92-year-old has been coming faithfully to the eye clinic for check-ups.

Parking Services introduces new permit, renewal process
Parking Services is introducing a transferable parking permit this month, as well as a two-year parking renewal process. The new transferable permit takes effect July 1 and will be valid through June 30, 2007. See article for details.

UNMC conducts study on breast cancer vaccine
UNMC researchers are conducting a unique vaccine trial for breast cancer patients with non-metastatic disease. Researchers believe giving the vaccine to patients at an earlier stage of cancer may produce a better chance of preventing a recurrence and cause regression of any remaining disease.

A team of more than 20 Nebraskans will head to Philadelphia this weekend for the BIO 2005 Annual International Convention, the world’s largest biotechnology gathering with more than 18,000 biotech executives, investors, journalists, policymakers and scientists from more than 60 countries expected to attend.

Sellout crowd of more than 3,300 attends Cattlemen’s Ball
The 2005 Cattlemen’s Ball was winding down. The nurses and staff in the UNMC tent had put in a full day, taking blood pressures and screening people for prostate cancer and skin damage. A man walked into the tent and approached one of the nursing team.
