UNMC conducts study on breast cancer vaccine

UNMC researchers are conducting a unique vaccine trial for breast cancer patients with non-metastatic disease. Researchers believe giving the vaccine to patients at an earlier stage of cancer may produce a better chance of preventing a recurrence and cause regression of any remaining disease.

Sellout crowd of more than 3,300 attends Cattlemen’s Ball

The 2005 Cattlemen’s Ball was winding down. The nurses and staff in the UNMC tent had put in a full day, taking blood pressures and screening people for prostate cancer and skin damage. A man walked into the tent and approached one of the nursing team. Dr. Armitage on international cancer research board

James Armitage, M.D., Shapiro Professor of Medicine and oncologist in UNMC’s Internal Medicine Department, has been named to the French Institut Nation du Cancer International Scientific Advisory Board. He is one of only six Americans selected to serve on the international board for cancer research in France.

Grant supports patient safety work in rural hospitals

For the past four years, UNMC faculty members — Katherine Jones, Ph.D.; Gary Cochran, Pharm.D.; and Keith Mueller, Ph.D. — have assisted Nebraska’s small rural hospitals in their efforts to prevent medication errors. Now, their work is being recognized nationally with a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).
