Antimalarial drug development shows promise
In their quest to prevent the ravages of malaria, Jonathan Vennerstrom, Ph.D., and his team of scientists worldwide are building on their success. Dr. Vennerstrom and his team of scientists from UNMC, Monash University in Australia, and the Swiss Tropical Institute in Basel, Switzerland, have received a $1 million grant that will enable them to develop a new antimalarial drug.

Electronic signatures to expedite travel reimbursement process
The University of Nebraska has implemented electronic signatures for online Travel Expense Statements in SAP. This will eliminate the need for required hand written signatures and thus expedite the travel reimbursement process.

Goeztinger-Comer receives Chancellor’s Gold U award
Sandra Goetzinger-Comer doesn’t take an “interim” title lightly. In June 2004, Goetzinger-Comer stepped in as interim director of UNMC Alumni Affairs and, for 14 months, reenergized the office. All the while, she continued to serve as director of UNMC Public Affairs.

Burger King restaurants participate in fight against cancer
During the month of July, Burger King Restaurants customers in 73 locations will be asked if they would like to donate $1 to “Beat Cancer for Kids.” All donations will go toward childhood cancer research at the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center.

Kyle Meyer has been named associate dean of the School of Allied Health Professions, effective Aug. 1. Meyer has served as assistant professor and director of clinical education in the Division of Physical Therapy Education since 1991, and has held academic appointments at UNMC for more than 25 years.
