Heart transplant gives teen new lease on life

2006 marks the beginning of a new chapter, a life filled with new possibilities for Justin Cornish. The 16-year-old from Lincoln, Neb., is doing well just days after undergoing a heart transplant at The Nebraska Medical Center.

Saving Faces exhibition blends medicine, art

Omaha will be the third stop for a North American tour of a unique art exhibition, which provides an in-depth look at the physical and emotional aspects of patients who underwent head and neck surgery subsequent to trauma, disfiguring forms of cancer or other problems. The exhibit will run from Jan. 13 to Feb. 24 at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Health center serves needs of older adults

Kathryn Dwinell has lived a pretty healthy 100 years. And she knows a good thing when she sees one. Dwinell, who lives in a retirement home in Lincoln, regularly visits the Senior Health Promotion Center, a nurse-managed center operated by the UNMC College of Nursing.

UNMC post-doctoral fellow is Fight for Sight grant recipient

Lucia Cadetti, a post-doctoral fellow at UNMC, is one of 10 Fight for Sight 2005-06 Postdoctoral Fellowships recipients. Outstanding independent researchers were selected nationally. Fellows receive a $20,000 grant each year.
