Regents approve construction of second research tower

UNMC likely will break ground late this summer or early this fall on a second 10-level research tower. On Friday, the University of Nebraska Board of Regents unanimously approved construction of the facility, which is presently being called the Research Center of Excellence II.

Dr. Jensen to receive Community Service Award

Linda Jensen, Ph.D., is one of Nebraska’s most vocal advocates for persons with mental illness. In recognition of her dedication to serving others, she will receive the UNMC Spirit of Community Service Award during the chancellor’s annual faculty meeting April 25.

Dr. Todd among 2006 outstanding teachers

To successfully complete gross anatomy, students must absorb literally thousands of medical terms. It’s not easy, but if you have good teachers, the process becomes much easier. That’s where Gordon Todd, Ph.D. comes in. He’s been teaching gross anatomy for 34 years. And – better yet – he’s very good at it. Dr. Todd will be among four faculty members to receive the Outstanding Teaching Award at Tuesday’s Annual Faculty Meeting.

Dr. LaFramboise among 2006 outstanding teachers

In her clinical teaching, Louise LaFramboise, Ph.D., always emphasizes the person in the bed. Calm in critical care situations, she helps students develop their critical reasoning and interpersonal skills with patients who are critically ill. This is the third in a series of profiles on this year’s outstanding teachers. The awardees will be recognized April 25 at 4 p.m. during the Annual Faculty Meeting in the Durham Research Center Auditorium.

Regents to vote on second research tower

UNMC will seek approval of the University of Nebraska Board of Regents Friday to proceed with construction of a second research tower.The 10-level facility, which is presently being called the Research Center of Excellence II, would be nearly identical to the Durham Research Center, which opened in 2003.

Pharmacy students win outreach competition

UNMC pharmacy students finished 16th out of the 31 schools that competed in the Medicare Student Outreach Competition. As a result, the group received a National Council of State Pharmacy Association Executives’ award of $500.
