A behavioral health center dedicated to serving the needs of families and communities in the Omaha area will open by the end of 2007 as part of plans that will be announced today by members of a unique public-private partnership that includes UNMC’s hospital partner, The Nebraska Medical Center.

200 children receive care at dental day event in Lincoln
UNMC’s College of Dentistry hosted its 11th annual Children’s Dental Day on Feb. 2. About 200 children from seven Nebraska communities were treated to a day of food, fun and dental care.

Dr. Kompella, top ophthalmologist work on nanomedicine project
UNMC’s Uday Kompella, Ph.D., associate professor of pharmaceutics and ophthalmology, is a co-principal investigator on a multi-university, multi-million dollar National Institutes of Health project aimed at improving drug delivery to the back of the human eye. The collaborative project is led by Henry Edelhauser, Ph.D., of the Emory Eye Center in Atlanta, who will speak at UNMC today at 4 p.m. in the Durham Research Center, Room 1005.

Chinese medical exchange students return home
The heart of the Asian Pacific Rim Development Program is the continued exchange of students between UNMC and Chinese biomedical institutions. The second delegation of four Chinese medical students finished their three-month rotation at UNMC in December. In parting, these students left UNMC Today with some of their most lasting impressions about UNMC and America.
