College of Medicine celebrates 125th anniversary

On June 14, 1881, a group of 19th Century physicians incorporated the medical college that is now the UNMC College of Medicine. Some 125 years later, the College of Medicine is celebrating its quasquicentennial with a series of celebratory activities and events planned to recognize this historic occasion.

Student Medical & Dental Education Program brings diversity

UNMC recently welcomed the most diverse group of undergraduates ever. The 78 students from over 50 universities and colleges make up the inaugural class of UNMC’s Student Medical and Dental Education Program. UNMC is one of only 12 campuses in the nation to host the prestigious program.

UNMC makes diagnostic breakthrough with Burkitt lymphoma

An international research study involving UNMC, the National Cancer Institute and 10 other institutions has successfully identified the gene expression signature for Burkitt lymphoma. The discovery, which is reported in the June 8 edition of The New England of Medicine, will allow physicians to better diagnose and treat Burkitt lymphoma and better distinguish it from another more common form of malignant lymphoma.

National AHEC conference comes to Omaha

The National Area Health Education Center Organization’s (NAO) bi-annual conference will be held June 10-14 at the Qwest Convention Center in Omaha. The NAO conference is expected to draw 500 participants from around the country and is being hosted by the Nebraska AHEC Program Office at UNMC.
