Jewell helps motorists drive by the book
By day, Lisa Jewell provides young people with hands-on experiences in hopes of them choosing careers in the health profession. At her part-time job, as an instructor for the National Safety Council Greater Omaha Chapter, she teaches people to be safe on the road in order to keep them from ending up in the hospital.

Rural physical therapist first to complete geriatric mini-fellowship
North Platte Physical Therapist William Mackley is the first health professional in Nebraska to complete the Geriatric Mini-fellowship offered through the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s Nebraska Geriatric Education Center (NEBGEC). Dr. Mackley completed the distance learning program in June and eventually will be followed by more than 100 other health professionals in the state currently enrolled in the program.

UNMC study to evaluate nicotine vaccine

Dr. Wengel continues as psychiatry chairman

Regents unanimously approve College of Public Health
The University of Nebraska Board of Regents gave unanimous approval Friday for a College of Public Health to be established on UNMC campus. At the same time, the board also unanimously approved the appointment of Jay Noren, M.D., as the founding dean of the COPH.
