Dr. Zetterman honored by American College of Physicians
Rowen Zetterman, M.D., professor of medicine and associate dean for veterans affairs at the UNMC College of Medicine, recently received the prestigious Alfred Stengel Memorial Award for Outstanding Service for 2007 from the American College of Physicians (ACP).

Medicine photo exhibit to remain on display until June 3
The Durham Western Heritage Museum will leave the photo exhibit chronicling the 125-year history of the UNMC College of Medicine on display through June 3. The exhibit was scheduled to run until late April.

Unique islet transplant offers Colorado toddler hope
Three-year-old Berlyn Alfredsen is much like any other little girl. She enjoys wearing her hair in a ponytail. Her eyes light up when she watches her favorite Elmo videos. Unlike other children, though, little Berlyn has spent much of her young life in and out of hospitals. She recently became the youngest patient known to undergo an autologous islet transplant.

Smithsonian/Durham event features stories of the American West

Laboratory science student completes long trek to her degree
Her dad would be proud. Last Saturday, Janet Steinwart was among the more than 600 UNMC students who graduated. A non-traditional student, Steinwart received a bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science (CLS).
