NIH official urges biomedical scientists to ‘dream big,’ collaborate

Nebraska’s biomedical researchers must “dream big, reach high” and work across disciplines to successfully compete for National Institutes of Health funding. That was the advice of Daniel Rosenblum, M.D., medical officer for the NIH’s National Center for Research Resources, at the 2006 Nebraska Biomedical Research Retreat last Thursday.

UNMC to launch pilot program offering personal services for patients

A UNMC physician will launch a pilot program starting Feb. 1 in which patients will be charged an annual fee in return for a variety of services not normally covered by health insurance policies or government payors, medical center officials have announced.

Pulmonary, critical care, sleep and allergy section having funding success

The pulmonary, critical care, sleep & allergy section in the department of internal medicine is the middle of a good run. Not only did the section succeed in receiving five extramural grant awards totaling more than $3.8 million in direct costs, but all five notices came between Aug. 1 and Sept. 30.
