UNMC pre-party raises nearly $7,700 for Nebraska AIDS Project

Pauli’s — one of Omaha’s hot spots during the College World Series — was once again the place to be on the evening of Dec. 2, as it played host to UNMC’s pre-party for this year’s “Night of a Thousand Stars” event. More than 150 people turned out for the party, raising nearly $7,700 for the Nebraska AIDS Project.

It’s a trend that The Nebraska Medical Center Burn Center would rather not see. Along with cooler temperatures comes an increase in the number of children suffering from burns.

Looking back with H.W. McFadden Jr., M.D.

In honor of the College of Medicine’s 125th Anniversary, UNMC Today spoke with some retired faculty members and reflected on their years in the college.

Today we hear from H.W. McFadden Jr., M.D., a UNMC graduate who joined the faculty in 1949 and chaired the department of medical microbiology. A nationally-recognized pathologist, Dr. McFadden retired in 1985.

UNMC’s Nizar Mamdani was part of a 28-member delegation that joined Lt. Gov. Rick Sheehy on a trip to Japan last week to celebrate the opening of the Nebraska Center, the state’s first trade office in a foreign country.

Looking back with F. Miles Skultety, M.D., Ph.D.

In honor of the College of Medicine’s 125th Anniversary, UNMC Today spoke with some retired faculty members and reflected on their years in the college.

Today we hear from F. Miles Skultety, M.D., Ph.D., who served as interim dean of the College of Medicine from July 1978 to February 1979 and wrote two historical volumes on the college, covering the years 1880 to 2000. Dr. Skultety retired in 1987 after serving 21 years on the UNMC faculty.

Today we hear from Walter Friedlander, M.D., who founded both the department of neurology (now the department of neurosciences) and the department of medical humanities and jurisprudence (now the department of preventive and societal medicine) at UNMC. Dr. Friedlander retired in 1984.
