Dr. Miya presents manuscript at nursing ethics conference

Pam Miya, Ph.D., associate professor, UNMC College of Nursing, was one of 24 internationally recognized nurse researchers to participate in an April conference called “Nursing and Health Care Ethics: A Legacy and A Vision.” The Omaha conference brought together pioneers and noted scholars in nursing ethics.

Retired UNMC scientist/administrator, Joseph Gilmore, Ph.D., dies

A distinguished University of Nebraska Medical Center retired scientist and administrator, Joseph P. Gilmore, Ph.D., died April 24 in Tarpon Springs, Fla., due to complications of pneumonia. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., May 26, at St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church, 16701 S St.

Muschall named March Gold ‘U’ winner

In college, UNMC’s Lisa Muschall welded and worked with metal. While hands-on labor was part of her curriculum, another main focus of Muschall’s college coursework in earning her degree in manufacturing and engineering technology from the University of Nebraska at Omaha was improving work place efficiency. These skills translate to her current job as administrator II in UNMC’s hematology and oncology section, where she manages personnel, space and efforts for 60 of the section’s employees.

Maurers roasted at Omaha Press Club

Since moving to Omaha 14 years ago, Dr. Harold and Beverly Maurer have poured their time and energy into making the University of Nebraska Medical Center a world-class academic health center. … Natives of Brooklyn, N.Y., the Maurers have learned firsthand how generous Nebraskans can be. On April 25, they also learned that Nebraskans can be just as generous in doling out barbs and quips, as the Omaha Press Club honored the Maurers by making them the 111th Face on the Barroom Floor.

Drs. Binhammer and O’Dell to receive Golden Apples, again

Some attending today’s College of Medicine Convocation at Joslyn Art Museum may experience a little dejà vu when Robert Binhammer, Ph.D., and David O’Dell, M.D., are presented the Hirschmann Prize for Teaching Excellence — Golden Apple Awards. In 2002, Drs. Binhammer and O’Dell both received the awards, which are given by fourth-year medical students to recognize excellence in faculty teaching.
