The poison center talks ethanol in hand sanitizers

The Nebraska Regional Poison Center has received an increase in calls concerning hand sanitizers and the dangers associated with them. This month an e-mail has been circulating to mothers, teachers and health care providers about a child who ingested a lick of a hand sanitizer after it was applied to the hands and then became intoxicated from the ethanol in the product.

Workshop aimed at strenghthening American Indian education

As she opened a box containing a shiny new microscope, Judy Walz felt a twinge of holiday spirit. “It’s just like Christmas,” said the science teacher from St. Francis Indian School. “We really don’t have the means or the materials that our students need. This microscope will really come in handy.” Walz was one of 16 teachers from eight reservations schools in Nebraska and South Dakota who attended a workshop at UNMC in early June.
