Senators secure $1.2 million for UNMC — approval pending
Funds totaling $1.2 million for UNMC to support cancer research, a statewide lung cancer screening project and a state-of-the-art nursing education building has been secured by U.S. Sens. Ben Nelson and Chuck Hagel in an appropriations bill.

Second class of Chinese nursing students spend a month at UNMC
For the second-straight year, a group of four nursing students from China spent about a month at UNMC. The students from Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine (SJTUSM) arrived in Omaha on April 13 and left on May 12.

Dr. Yarington, first chair of otolaryngology, dies
Brig. Gen. C. Thomas Yarington Jr., M.D., who started the UNMC Department of Otolaryngology in 1968, died May 30, in Seattle. He was 73.
