Ruth and Bill Scott continue their incredible support of UNMC

The UNMC beat goes on — thanks in large measure to the leadership of Omahans Ruth and Bill Scott. The Scotts, who have made five previous major donations to UNMC, are at it again. This time, they are making a gift that will provide the foundation for UNMC to add two new buildings — a College of Public Health and an addition to the College of Nursing — while also completing the establishment of UNMC’s academic campus.

UNMC to seek new addition for College of Nursing

Communities across the nation are in the midst of a nursing shortage, one that is only expected to intensify as baby boomers age and the need for health care grows. On March 7, UNMC will seek approval from the University of Nebraska Board of Regents for the construction of an addition to the College of Nursing.

Admitting you made a mistake that could have meant giving a person the wrong medication is even harder.”It’s easy to blame an individual health care professional for a medical error, but most of the time it’s not their fault,” said Katherine Jones, Ph.D., associate professor in the School of Allied Health Professions. “Ninety-percent of the time the root cause of the error is in the system.”

Dr. Beidler named director of Morehead Center

Susan Beidler, Ph.D., has been appointed as the new director for the UNMC College of Nursing Morehead Center for Nursing Practice. Dr. Beidler, recruited last fall from Florida Atlantic University, brings more than 30 years of nursing experience to UNMC.
