Semi-trailer on campus to teach environmental stewardship

UNMC, UNMC Physicians and The Nebraska Medical Center would like to show employees more ways to reduce, reuse and recycle. In recognition of Earth Day, the medical center will be hosting the Mobile Environmental Education Trailer on campus the week of April 14. UNMC physician involved in the national guidelines study looking at fevers in ICU patients. A UNMC infectious disease specialist, Andre Kalil, M.D., was one of 11 experts from around the country to develop guidelines for what physicians should do when critically ill patients develop a new fever.

Neurological sciences chairman helps lead study comparing stenting vs. surgery

UNMC’s Pierre Fayad, M.D., was one of six researchers on the executive committee for a major national study — reported in the April 10 edition of the New England Journal of Medicine — that compared stenting and surgery in high-risk patients with significant narrowing of the carotid artery and found that there is no significant difference in the long-term outcomes of these patients three years after either one of the procedures was performed to open up the artery.
