While UNMC College of Nursing students, Kaitlin Klotz and Angela Fowler, were assessing the Omaha South High School student population to come up with a plan to improve health, they learned that health is sometimes secondary to things like food and fancy clothing.

Dr. Smith named physician of distinction
Each spring and fall, UNMC’s hospital partner, The Nebraska Medical Center, selects two “Physicians of Distinction.” This past fall, the medical center presented Phil Smith, M.D., professor of infectious diseases at UNMC, with the “Physician of Distinction, Clinical Educator Recognition.”

UNMC’s Youth Learning Center sextupled in size recently when it moved from a small, secluded 1,000-square foot building on 41st and Emile to a much larger, more accessible 6,000-square foot space on 44th and Farnam streets.

Christmas comes early for woman with cystic fibrosis
Rob and Kassa Shradar had no intentions of having children when they married almost 10 years ago. They knew the risks and didn’t want to put a child through what Kassa had experienced — a rigorous routine of chest percussion, airway clearance medications, extra exercise and attention to nutrition.
