![Incident commander Keith Swarts, seated far right, leads a group in a discussion during the “Winter Wonderland” tabletop exercise Wednesday. About 115 members of the UNMC and Nebraska Medicine incident command team practiced readiness response in the event of a major disaster on campus. The exercise identified strengths and weaknesses as three teams led by incident commanders identified challenges such as workforce, logistics and communications issues. The scenario featured a snow and ice storm that made roads impassable and interrupted power. “Rest assured, when difficult things happen… preparation, training, building trust and respect among leadership teams is what it’s all about,” said Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., UNMC chancellor, who as a surgeon led a triage team in New York after the 9/11 attacks. “When peoples’ lives hang in the balance, having a solid incident command is very valuable.”](https://www.unmc.edu/newsroom/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/FTR0417.jpg)
