UNMC, NHS and UMA sponsor Team Kaos, one of the driving forces in Nebraska cycling. The squad recently promoted and competed in the second annual Omaha Criterium, a two-day biking event to benefit the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center.

Appropriations Committee recommendation ‘fair’ to university

The Nebraska Legislature could begin debate this afternoon on a proposal that would not cut as much from the University of Nebraska’s budget allocation as had been proposed.

Members of the Legislature’s Appropriations Committee advanced a measure Wednesday evening that would reduce the university’s allocation by $10 million. Gov. Mike Johanns had proposed that $20 million be cut from the university’s budget.

Researchers study role of protein in multiple sclerosis

Thomas Petro, Ph.D, department of oral biology, UNMC College of Dentistry, has been awarded a $209,000, three-year grant from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society to study a cell protein called Interleukin-12 (IL-12) to determine its role in multiple sclerosis.

UNMC, Fort Lewis College affiliation announced

UNMC and Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo., have entered into an affiliation agreement that will enhance health science research and career opportunities for more Native American and Hispanic students.

UNMC Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D., and Fort Lewis College President Kendall Blanchard, Ph.D., signed a formal statement of affiliation in February.

UNMC/NHS, Metro Credit Union to launch UNeCard+

Beginning Monday, Aug. 5, UNMC/NHS employees will have the opportunity to add a convenience feature to their identification badges. On that day, UNMC, working with Metro Health Services Federal Credit Union, will launch the UNeCard+ program.

UNeCard+ uses available technology to give employees a convenient way to access funds and make purchases on campus without using cash.
