NU Central Administration Internet domain name change
University of Nebraska Central Administration is in the process of adopting the Internet domain name “nebraska.edu” as its official network name. E-mail addresses and Web site URLs for the four University of Nebraska campuses will NOT change. However, personal address book entries should be changed to reflect new addresses for colleagues in central administration and the Foundation. See article for more information.

Employee roundtable Oct. 22 on accessing healthcare on campus
A new employee roundtable series kicks off next week to provide UNMC faculty, staff and students the opportunity to discuss a variety of issues or topics of importance to the UNMC community. The first session — scheduled Tuesday, Oct. 22 from noon to 1 p.m. — will focus on health care access and will involve a discussion with University Medical Associates about what can be done to improve service and accessibility to healthcare providers on campus.

UNMC to lease space at Scott Technology Transfer and Incubator Center
Cutting-edge research that UNMC will conduct at a business incubator in Omaha has the potential to lead to promising product developments. Under an agreement approved Friday by the NU Board of Regents, UNMC will lease 8,309 square feet of space at the Scott Technology Transfer and Incubator Center.

Search committee to identify candidates for College of Nursing dean
UNMC Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D., has appointed a 13-person search committee to identify candidates for the position of the UNMC College of Nursing dean. Ada Lindsey, Ph.D., announced earlier this month that she will retire from the position, effective July 31, 2003.

Educators share distance education learnings
The UNMC Health Systems Nurse Specialist (HSNS) graduate program recently sponsored a two-day national conference titled: “Distance Education: From Reality to Quality.” The Sept. 27-28 conference showcased innovative teaching and evaluation practices used by the College of Nursing faculty.

Hispanic Heritage Month prompts wide-ranging conversation
In commemoration of National Hispanic Heritage Awareness Month, the NHS/UNMC Employee Diversity Network sponsored a special presentation Sept. 26 by Jose Romero, M.D., associate professor of pediatrics infectious disease and chief recruitment officer of Latinos at UNMC.
“One very important thing for everyone to understand is that the Latino people are a very heterogeneous population – one size does not fit all,” said Dr. Romero, who was born in Mexico.

Security procedures affecting international students discussed
In continuing efforts to strengthen national security, Thomas Gouttierre, dean of International Studies and Programs at UNMC and the University of Nebraska at Omaha, said the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) and U.S. Department of State (DOS) have implemented several new procedures for tracking international students and scholars.
