UNMC/NHS will commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Monday with a noon presentation by Diane Ariza, Ph.D., assistant dean of multicultural affairs at Albion College in Albion, Mich., and former director of multicultural affairs at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Mitigating out-of-office reply risks
Many employees bound for vacation enable their Lotus Notes’ out-of-office function and modify their voice mail message so those sending e-mail messages or calling know they are unable to respond to incoming messages. But is there a potential security risk in doing so?
Perhaps, but UNMC’s Information Technology Services staff says there are reasonable steps employees may take to mitigate potential risks without disabling the out-of-office function.

Dr. Vose appointed chief, UNMC section of oncology/hematology
Julie Vose, M.D., UNMC oncologist, recently was named chief of the section of hematology/oncology, UNMC department of internal medicine, following an extensive national search. Dr. Vose succeeds Ken Cowan, M.D., Ph.D., who served as interim section chief the past two years.

Roberts earns January Chancellor’s Gold ‘U’ Award
Stacks of grant budgets, speaker correspondence and course syllabi are piled atop Barbara Roberts’ desk in UNMC’s department of biochemistry and molecular biology. Much has changed since 1970 when Roberts first sat behind that then-new, metal desk in Bennett Hall.
What hasn’t changed is Roberts’ steadfast service to faculty, staff and students in the department. For her outstanding job performance, Roberts has received the Chancellor’s Gold ‘U’ Award for January.
