Play examines domination, oppression — part 4 of 4
Today’s performance of “Let My People Go: Trials of Bondage in Words of Master and Slave” is about history, not just black history, but racial and sexist domination and oppression, says Valda Boyd Ford, director of UNMC/NHS Community and Multicultural Affairs. The free performance begins at 11:30 a.m. in the College of Nursing’s Cooper Auditorium.

Bioterrorism preparedness leader impressed by UNMC, Nebraska
Although work continues, the United States has made considerable progress in preparing for the potential of a biological weapons attack and Nebraska is among the states leading the effort, said the man who spent 10 years directing the World Health Organization’s global smallpox eradication campaign.

UNMC radio commercials begin airing March 3
UNMC will air its spring series of radio commercials highlighting research and education beginning Monday, March 3. The commercials will run in three, three-week flights from March 3 through May 11 on stations in Omaha, Lincoln and in communities across the state.

College of Nursing to host March 1 career fair, open house
UNMC’s College of Nursing, as well as UNMC students of the Nebraska State Student Nurse Association in Omaha and Lincoln, will host a career fair and open house Saturday, March 1 for anyone interested in a nursing career or who would like to advance their nursing degree.

Leader of global smallpox eradication campaign at UNMC
On Wednesday, Donald A. Henderson, M.D., learned what Tom Ridge and other top U.S. governmental officials have found out in the past few months: Nebraska, and UNMC specifically, are leaders in bioterrorism preparedness.
The man who spent 10 years directing the World Health Organization’s global smallpox eradication campaign will cap his two-day visit to UNMC today with the Latta Lecture. Dr. Henderson is senior science advisor to the Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Dr. Armitage resigns as College of Medicine dean, will stay at UNMC
James O. Armitage, M.D., an internationally recognized expert in the research and treatment of lymphoma, has resigned as dean of the College of Medicine at UNMC, effective Sept. 1. He plans to stay at UNMC, focusing his efforts on medical students and his clinical and research interests.
