HIPAA regulations apply to all UNMC, NHS, UMA employees

Together, they are combing the 169-page Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) to ensure that UNMC, NHS and UMA complies with the federal regulations that govern privacy, security and electronic transactions standards for health care information.

Employees, students must get new identification cards

UNMC employees and students, as well as UMA employees, will need to obtain new identification cards over the next couple of months. UNMC sizzles at BIO 2002 convention

UNMC recently showcased its sizzling biotechnology opportunities at the BIO 2002 International Biotechnology Convention and Exhibition in Toronto.

The Nebraska contingent — which included several UNMC employees — attended the largest biotechnology convention in the world in an effort to raise awareness for Omaha’s biotechnology programs. More than 15,000 delegates attended the June 10-12 convention, which featured more than 800 exhibitors at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

Platelet supply critically low, donors needed

The American Red Cross platelet supply is critically low. The need for platelets never takes a vacation. Even though donors may be away, patients still need generous individuals to take a break from their summer routine to
donate platelets.

Call the American Red Cross at 271-2589 to make a platelet donation appointment. Donors are especially needed today and Saturday in order to make sure platelets will be available this weekend and early next week.

QwestDex city directory now available online

Qwest is making QwestDex city directory available online. This online solution is provided and maintained by Qwest and gives employees the convenience and benefit of having the local QwestDex city directory right on their desktop. It also provides a paperless option to the traditional directory as Qwest is reducing the number of directories received by UNMC. (See story for links to QwestDex Live).
