Panowicz honored with Light of Wellness Award
A year ago, when Dorothy Panowicz would return to the UNMC Administration Building from a meeting at Wittson Hall, the uphill walk left her winded. Today, a few months after smoking her last cigarette, the Business and Finance staff assistant makes the climb with ease. She was one of 11 Omaha-area people honored last week with the William M. Kizer Light of Wellness Award, presented by the Wellness Council of the Midlands.

Events raise money for Liz’s Legacy, cancer research

“Night of a Thousand Stars” set for Dec. 6
The 11th annual “Night of a Thousand Stars” will shine in Omaha on Saturday, Dec. 6, and the UNMC HIV Team and Stars Committee hope that a record number of people will illuminate the Omaha Woman’s Club to begin their evening of celebration.

Memorial gift focuses on diabetes research
The Roberta J. Newsham Memorial Diabetes Research Fund has been established to support diabetes research at UNMC’s College of Medicine. The Newsham family created the fund through a family gift and memorial donations creating a $10,000 endowment at the University of Nebraska Foundation.

Securing Lotus Notes Web access
In order to provide more secure Lotus Notes Web Access, UNMC will be implementing SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) for Web access to the Lotus Notes e-mail servers. ITS plans to implement this early Wednesday, Oct. 22. See article for details.
