UMA, hospital to develop medical campus in west Omaha
University Medical Associates and its partners, The Nebraska Medical Center and UNMC, are planning to develop a comprehensive, full-service medical campus on the southeast corner of 180th and Dodge Streets, just west of the new Village Pointe shopping area.

Dr. Boust mental health care champion
Psychiatrist Susan Boust, M.D., has been appointed to the newly established state Behavioral Health and Oversight Commission. An associate professor of psychiatry at UNMC, Dr. Boust has long been a champion of the need for better public access to quality mental health care.

Cancer experts to participate in July 28 Internet chat
Three cancer experts from UNMC will conduct a live Internet chat sponsored by the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s patient Web site, People Living With Cancer (www.PLWC.org). The live chat will be Wednesday, July 28, from 1 to 2 p.m. (CDT) on “Understanding Leukemia, Lymphoma, and Myeloma.” The chat will provide patients, family members and caregivers an opportunity to ask questions of experts.

Online service helps support UNMC researcher
Verlyn Veldhouse politely listened to Sandra Gunselman, Ph.D., as she spoke about her job at UNMC whenever they met at their sons’ Boy Scout meetings. Dr. Gunselman didn’t know if she was boring Veldhouse with the small talk. “He never really said anything,” she said, until last December when Veldhouse, president of the Omaha-based Internet service efanz, approached Dr. Gunselman and offered a $2,000 donation toward her research.

Lotus Notes users – Clarkson e-mail to change July 27
If you use Lotus Notes to send e-mail messages to The Nebraska Medical Center hospital or clinics, ITS says be aware of the following:
- Beginning July 27, the Clarkson e-mail address will change to The Nebraska Medical Center and replies to old messages with the Clarkson address will be undeliverable, requiring you to use the new address.
- Personal address book groups will need to be updated with the new address, beginning July 27 (see story for instructions). Timing is crucial so don’t update too soon.

It’s 12:45 a.m. and the phone rings. “Is Nick there?” It’s a frequent question at the Hexum house, said Terry Hexum, Ph.D., despite the fact that his oldest son lives in Los Angeles, where he is the lead singer/guitarist for the popular band 311.
