Online benefit enrollment information
You have the option to submit 2005 NUFlex benefit changes online using the SAP Employee Self Service (ESS) Web site (ess.nebraska.edu). The online method is fast and convenient, and can be used in place of your NUFlex Change Form. Changes can be made for any NUFlex benefit with the exception of dental and vision care coverage, by using your SAP ESS ID and password.

From cultural adversity to international acclaim
Guadalupe Quintanilla, Ed.D., immigrated to Brownsville, Texas, from Mexico at age 13, with no formal education and no ability to speak or read the English language. Incredibly, she was still given an English I.Q. test, scored 62 points, was officially designated as “mentally retarded” by the Brownsville School Board administration and placed in a classroom of first-graders. Dr. Quintanilla’s poignant rise from cultural adversity to three educational degrees and international acclaim recently enthralled a UNMC audience.

MPH program continues to build, seeks new director
For the past three years, university officials have laid the foundation for the UNMC and University of Nebraska at Omaha Master of Public Health Program. In May, their efforts were rewarded when the program received national accreditation. Now, campus officials are searching for a new director to further develop the program.

SimplyWell health screening schedule

Chuck Durham joined some prestigious company Friday night as he became the third recipient of the prestigious Ambassador of Hope Award from the Friends of the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center.

Pharmacy students honor veterans
Patriotic letters from UNMC College of Pharmacy students fill a hallway at the Thomas Fitzgerald Veterans’ Home in Omaha. Members of the UNMC Academy of Student Pharmacists spent Monday writing nearly 50 letters thanking the home’s veterans for their military service and sacrifice. The letters are on display today as the nation honors America’s 25 million living veterans on this 51st annual Veterans Day.

Two physicians appointed to administrative positions
Two UNMC physicians have been appointed to administrative positions within the UNMC Department of Internal Medicine. Tim McCashland, M.D., has been named the medical director of liver transplantation, and Mark Mailliard, M.D., has been appointed the interim chief of the section of gastroenterology and hepatology. Drs. McCashland and Mailliard assumed their new roles Sept. 1 when Michael Sorrell, M.D., stepped down from his administrative duties. Dr. Sorrell will continue to treat patients in his general practice.
