Study shows benefits of anti-viral drugs in organ transplant
UNMC researchers have determined that two long-established anti-viral drugs given to patients following a solid organ transplant can significantly reduce organ rejections, major infections and deaths. The results of the research study are featured in today’s issue of the Annals of Internal Medicine, a leading scientific journal.

Nurse earns doctoral degree at 53
Mary Filipi, Ph.D., has worked in almost every area of nursing – medical surgical, recovery room, emergency room and coronary care. She’s worked in labor and delivery and family practice and as a school nurse. But, today, the 53-year-old self-proclaimed “late bloomer” is graduating with a doctoral degree in neuroscience.
