New museum chronicles College of Nursing history

With every box she opens Audrey Nelson, Ph.D., R.N., chairman of the UNMC College of Nursing and Alumni History Museum committee, gets more and more excited. Nurses and nursing students past and present will get to see these artifacts and many others with the opening of the UNMC College of Nursing and Alumni History Museum on Saturday, June 4. The museum is on the third floor of the College of Nursing.

That’s what has kept the Kansas transplant connected to the Omaha community. It’s also the reason she joins an elite group of female leaders to be honored by the YWCA.

Parking lot rates to be adjusted July 1

Beginning July 1, Parking Services is adjusting parking lot rates to create a more equitable price structure for all motorists. Overall, the plan reduces the number of employee rates – more than two dozen — to three categories: premium, $23 per month; average, $17 per month; and low, $10 per month. UNMC’s Rapid Autopsy Program featured in scientific journal

UNMC’s Rapid Autopsy Program (RAP) received major acclaim this month when the Journal of Neuroimmunology carried two articles written by the UNMC RAP team. One article served as a tutorial for other institutions on what it takes to develop a RAP. The other article detailed the changes that occur in microglial brain cell function with HIV-1-associated dementia.

University accreditation process kicks off

When John Benson, M.D., reads the criteria on which UNMC’s accreditation application will be judged, he can’t help but note the similarities to UNMC’s strategic plan. Over the next 1 1/2 years, the campus will undergo a self-evaluation in hopes of receiving a full, 10-year re-accreditation.

Heart Walk surpasses 2005 goal

More than 2,200 people turned out for the 10th annual Omaha-Metro American Heart Walk on May 7 and raised more than $415,000, surpassing the 2005 goal of $375,000. This is the first year the local goal has been reach.
