Moves don’t deter distance learning student

If Maria Manske had gotten a bachelor’s degree in radiation science from UNMC while she lived 40 miles away in Fremont, it would have been a short daily commute to campus. Instead, she earned her degree while moving four times in two years and living as far away as Chapel Hill, N.C. – almost 1,500 miles. But because of UNMC’s distance learning online degree completion program, Manske didn’t feel so distant.

John Loschen carefully lifted the sticky gelatin ball out of the mold and placed it on his tongue. “Not bad,” said the high school junior from Wilcox, Neb. Loschen was one of 20 high school juniors and seniors from throughout Nebraska who participated in the Summer Health Professions Career Workshop last week at UNMC.

Ford to serve on NIH’s federal advisory committee

Valda Boyd-Ford, director of Community and Multicultural Affairs at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, has been chosen by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to serve on the Director’s Council of Public Representatives (COPR). Since 1999, COPR has advised the NIH director on issues of public importance.

Grant helps bring unique art exhibit to Omaha

UNMC and the University of Nebraska at Omaha have received a $3,500 grant from the Nebraska Arts Council to help bring a unique art exhibition to the UNO Art Gallery called “Saving Faces: Art and Medicine.”
