The UNMC community celebrated a construction milestone Monday as the last beam — covered with faculty, staff and student signatures — was set in place on the Michael F. Sorrell Center for Health Science Education.

Million-step Monday — Still time to start walking
After three weeks, more than 750 UNMC employees — including 86 teams — have joined UNMC’s Virtual Trek Across Nebraska. That said, there’s time for people and teams to join the challenge, said Jayme Nekuda of the Center for Healthy Living (CFHL).

Cattlemen’s Ball to feature giant boot sculptures
Those in the market for an interesting piece of art may want to check out the Cattlemen’s Ball being held this weekend in Lodgepole in western Nebraska. Seven fiberglass cowboy boots, each six foot tall original works of art, will be auctioned off to support cancer research at the Eppley Cancer Center.

Sandy Leslie named June Gold ‘U’ winner

42nd street to close temporarily Saturday
The section of 42nd Street between Dewey and Emile streets will close temporarily on Saturday while the pedestrian bridge connecting the Michael F. Sorrell Center for Health Science Education to Wittson Hall is delivered to the construction site.

College of Dentistry to provide free services in the Panhandle
Eighty students, dental faculty and staff from UNMC’s College of Dentistry will spend today through Saturday tending to the oral health of 200 children in western Nebraska.

UNMC Off The Clock — MMI’s Livermore on beach volleyball tour
On weekdays, Chestnut Livermore analyzes human chromosomes as a cytogenetic technologist at UNMC’s Munroe-Meyer Institute. But on many weekends, she heads to sunny beaches around the country and smashes volleyballs at breakneck speeds past other women as part of the Extreme Volleyball Professionals Tour.
