Longtime purchasing employee Robert D. Hansen dies
Robert D. Hansen, a longtime employee in the UNMC purchasing department, died Sunday. He was 75. Hansen retired from UNMC in 1990.

Susman earns Chancellor’s Gold ‘U’ Award
Katharine Susman has one goal for the computer programs she designs: If it’s not as easy as putting a form into a typewriter, no one will use it. The lesson, which she heard from a customer years ago, is Susman’s mantra. For her outstanding performance, the senior programmer/analyst for Information Technology Services has received the Chancellor’s Gold ‘U’ Award for February.

UNMC College of Dentistry treats 130 underserved children
The UNMC College of Dentistry hosted its fourth Children’s Dental Day Friday in Lincoln. More than 350 volunteers provided free dental treatment and education for 130 underserved children from Norfolk and Fremont. See story for photos.

Director of smallpox eradication campaign to give Latta lecture
In 1966, Donald A. Henderson, M.D., spent 10 years directing the World Health Organization’s global smallpox eradication campaign. Today, he serves as senior science advisor to the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
On Thursday, Dr. Henderson will be at UNMC to present the 21st John S. Latta Lectureship, sponsored by the UNMC College of Medicine Alumni Association. His noon presentation, titled “Implementing Smallpox Vaccination Strategy: Lessons from History,” will be in the College of Nursing’s Cooper Auditorium.
