Mary Hill, founder and president of Sisters Together, returned from the Sixth Annual Community-Campus Partnerships for Health national conference with an award of excellence for a poster that highlights the collaboration between UNMC/NHS Community Partnership and Hill’s organization.

Munroe-Meyer Institute Guild’s 35th annual garden walk is June 9

The 35th Annual Garden Walk will be Sunday, June 9, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (rain or shine). Sponsored by the Munroe-Meyer Institute Guild at UNMC, proceeds will support MMI’s therapeutic, training, and research activities benefiting children, youth and adults with developmental disabilities and chronic handicapping conditions.

Advance tickets are $8. Tickets will be $10 on the day of the event at all gardens. Children under 12 are admitted free. Stroller access is limited.

UNMC’s student-run STD clinic gains South Omaha’s RESPECT

For three months after UNMC’s RESPECT Clinic opened, Theresa Spitzer wondered when the first patient would walk through the door.

Dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment and education of sexually transmitted diseases among South Omaha’s underserved persons, the clinic didn’t receive a single patient between Oct. 3, 2001, and January. Since then, RESPECT (Responsible Early STD Prevention Education and Community Testing) has consistently served four to five patients each time it is open — a total of almost 40 patients as of May 1.
