Grant helps Dr. Teoh-Fitzgerald target breast cancer

For years scientists have studied breast cancer cells to varying degrees to determine why and how they form, thrive and communicate with one another and in some cases resist treatment. Personalized medicine, targeted therapies and preventive measures have become the norm. And all the while, Melissa Teoh-Fitzgerald, Ph.D., has wondered about the tissue surrounding the cancer cells, also known as the stroma, or connective tissue, that supports the cancer cell.

Students will be featured for their participation in activities outside of medical school and for making a difference in the community. The goal is to recognize students for what they are doing and to encourage other students to get involved in the community. After all, medical school should be much more than studying.

There’s more to music than meets the ears. If you’re anxious, depressed, fatigued or in pain, you might consider a dose of tunes to ease you back to health. Music does something beyond our understanding. We can call it an endorphin release or a distraction, but it goes much deeper than that. Somehow music just does us good. And the good it does was just proven to be even better.
