From Ghana to New York City to Omaha: Sallar’s path leads to UNMC pharmacy degree
Kofi Sallar’s journey to the United States began with a mere $20 in his pocket and a one-way plane ticket from Ghana to New York City. Now, more than seven years later, Sallar is the proud recipient of a doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center and is preparing for a career with Indian Health Service in Gallup, N.M.

Parking and Cashiering Services Manager Tina Spencer and assistants Kelly Weyant and Lashon George have worked hard to move UNMC/NHS employees into all available parking stalls in UNMC’s new parking structure, officially named Lot 50.

College of Dentistry provides free sealants to children
In an effort to prevent cavities, dental hygienists from the UNMC College of Dentistry, along with the Indian Chicano Health Center and Douglas County Health Department, last week placed free sealants on the teeth of 160 second- and third-graders at Marrs Academy School in south Omaha.

Sid Magdanz is once again offering free tax preparation assistance to UNMC employees who have questions regarding their 2002 tax returns. Magdanz is available to assist UNMC employees every Tuesday through April 8 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Administration Center, Room 2032.

Mentoring students highlights week
To say Robert Troia, M.D., enjoys being a mentor to ophthalmology residents is an understatement. In fact, the 10 hours he devotes each week as a volunteer faculty member are the professional highlight of his week. Dr. Troia recently received the College of Medicine’s Volunteer Faculty of the Month award.
