Dentistry ranks among top 20 in NIH funding

For the first time, the UNMC College of Dentistry is listed among the top 20 dental schools in National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding. Ranked 20th out of the 55 dental colleges around the country, the College of Dentistry received $3,440,596 in NIH research support during fiscal year 2003. Nearly $17 million NIH grant is UNMC’s largest ever

UNMC has received a five-year grant totaling almost $17 million from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to further its goal of building a statewide biomedical research infrastructure among undergraduate and graduate institutions. This is the largest grant in history received by UNMC.

Online service helps support UNMC researcher

Verlyn Veldhouse politely listened to Sandra Gunselman, Ph.D., as she spoke about her job at UNMC whenever they met at their sons’ Boy Scout meetings. Dr. Gunselman didn’t know if she was boring Veldhouse with the small talk. “He never really said anything,” she said, until last December when Veldhouse, president of the Omaha-based Internet service efanz, approached Dr. Gunselman and offered a $2,000 donation toward her research.

Study shows therapeutic promise for multiple sclerosis

It’s not a cure, but it is a step in the right direction. The results of a three-year study on the effects of autologous haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (AHSCT) in four patients with advanced multiple sclerosis were published recently in the journal Multiple Sclerosis.
